Daily Check-ins

Daily check-ins are the foundation of Murmurd. They provide visibility into what your team is working on without the overhead of synchronous meetings.

How Check-ins Work

  1. Scheduled prompts

Each workday, team members receive check-in prompts at a configured time (default: 9:00 AM local time).

  2. Quick responses

Members answer a few questions about their work, typically taking 30 seconds or less.

  3. Shared visibility

Responses appear in the team activity feed, giving everyone context without interrupting flow.

  4. Weekly aggregation

Check-ins feed into AI-powered weekly summaries for managers and team leads.

Default Questions

Murmurd comes with sensible defaults:

  1. “What did you accomplish yesterday?”

    • Captures completed work
    • Celebrates wins
    • Provides accountability
  2. “What are you working on today?”

    • Sets expectations
    • Enables coordination
    • Surfaces dependencies
  3. “Any blockers or concerns?”

    • Identifies issues early
    • Triggers escalations
    • Prevents bottlenecks

Visibility Options

For each response, choose who can see it:

VisibilityUse Case
TeamNormal work updates, daily tasks
OrgCross-functional updates, announcements
ConfidentialSensitive concerns, HR matters, performance issues

Check-in Channels

Recommended for most teams

  • Receive prompts as Slack DMs
  • Submit via interactive modal
  • Quick actions: Submit, Skip, Pause
  • Real-time team activity notifications

Skip & Pause

Not everyone needs to check in every day:

Skipping a Day

Use when you’re:

  • In deep focus mode
  • At an offsite or conference
  • Having an unusually light day

Skipping is transparent—your team sees you skipped.

Vacation Mode

For extended absences:

  • Go to Settings → Profile
  • Enable Vacation Mode
  • Set optional return date

Vacation mode:

  • Stops all prompts
  • Excludes you from escalation routing
  • Shows “On vacation” status to teammates

Pause Until

For short breaks:

  • Set a specific date to resume
  • Prompts pause automatically
  • Resume happens on the set date

Question Customization

Admins can customize questions at any level:

Scope Inheritance

Organization Questions (default for all)
Division Questions (override for division teams)
Team Questions (override for specific team)

Creating Custom Questions

  1. Go to Settings → Questions
  2. Click Add Question
  3. Enter your question text
  4. Set the scope (Org, Division, or Team)
  5. Choose visibility defaults

Response Statistics

Track check-in participation:

  • Response rate: Percentage of team members checking in
  • Streak tracking: Consecutive days of check-ins
  • Time to respond: How quickly people answer

Best Practices

  1. Keep it brief: Questions should be answerable in one sentence
  2. Be specific: “Working on payment integration” beats “coding”
  3. Flag blockers early: Don’t wait for blockers to become problems
  4. Use confidential wisely: It’s for truly sensitive matters
  5. Maintain consistency: Check in at the same time daily
